University of Gibraltar introduces operator-led online responsible gambling course
Cross-industry training programme will focus on promoting prompt action from egaming employees

The University of Gibraltar will offer an online training course on responsible gambling for egaming employees from May 2020.
The course, which is aimed primarily at those working within different sectors of gambling, is tailored to Gibraltar and aims to provide a standardised approach in terms of terminology and legal requirements.
Modules on the course include responsible gambling, AML and Proceeds of Crime. The course will be available 24/7 and on average takes approximately four to five hours to complete.
It will include information from real-life case studies featuring players and gaming behaviour, aiming to encourage ‘reflective’ thinking and prompt action from employees.
EGR understands officials from the university have collaborated with representatives from both the Gibraltar Gambling Division and the Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association (GBGA).
Gibraltar finance minister Albert Isola said while the course had been developed through collective industry co-operation, the next stage would be to encourage full industry-wide participation.
“This is about senior management promoting a culture of compliance and we will be encouraging take-up of these courses by our firms on behalf of their staff,” Isola added.
Paul Foster, CEO of the GBGA, said: “The University of Gibraltar, by investing in RG training, will be instrumental in changing the RG landscape of all licensed operators.
“By delivering high-quality e-learning, specifically tailored to Gibraltar regulations and best practice, it is hoped to raise awareness of RG at all levels within local operations,” Foster added.
