Weekend Review: Layers lament Premier League climax as favourites oblige on final day
Few surprises on Super Sunday made it a rare success for the acca-backers as attention turns to European fixtures
The final day of the Premier League season saw very few surprises as layers lamented the long-awaited gameweek 38.
Wins for Chelsea and Manchester United saw the pair secure Champions League qualification, while Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Watford condemned the Hornets to relegation from the top flight.
Betway’s Chad Yeomans said: “The final day of the Premier League season wasn’t without drama, but overall it was a good day for Betway punters who saw favourites Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all do the business.”
William Hill’s Rupert Adams noted that it was a rare good weekend for acca-backers.

Adams said: “It was not a football weekend to remember with the danger teams all coming up trumps.
“Arsenal were the best-backed team of the day with Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City not far behind. It was a day for accumulators and was also another day of too many goals for the bookies,” he added.
Conversely, Kindred Group’s Ali Gill said the weekend ended “fairly equal” following Everton and Tottenham’s failure to win.
Gill said: “All things told a fairly equal weekend in the final match up with the punters of the Premier League season. The three biggest turnover matches all went the way of players as Manchester United and Chelsea won to make next season’s Champions League and Arsenal signed off with a win.
“However, Spurs’ draw Palace was exactly what we wanted to see as that result left us with a big margin on the singles as well as killing a huge amount of last day accas in the process,” he noted.
Manchester City’s David Silva bowed out of English football after starring in a 5-0 win over Norwich City, with Betfred’s Alan Firkins stating a final flutter on the Spaniard fell short in the end for the punters.

Firkins continued: “A huge gamble with us on David Silva scoring at any time went west, as he said farewell to the Premier League.”
Elsewhere, one Betfred customer won a whopping £100,000 after a multi-league top scorer accumulator bet placed in November finally came in.
In the horseracing, Gill said: “Enable recorded a record-breaking third King George beating only two other rivals, however her prohibitive odds and relative class of the other horses meant some punters were more than willing to take her on, and the final result was almost entirely level for us on that one.”
