William Hill to end credit card betting in Ireland
London-based operator to end payment option as it follows Flutter Entertainment in banning the practice

William Hill has become the latest operator to remove credit card payment options in Ireland following pressure from the Irish Bookmakers Association (IBA).
According to the Irish Independent, Hills will no longer accept deposits from credit cards in Ireland from 16 February and is communicating its decision with customers in the country.
The move comes after rules set by the IBA to encourage operators to end the option to use credit cards as part of gambling-related harm prevention.
The removal of credit card betting aligns under the Irish Safer Gambling Code, with several operators, including BetVictor, still offering its Irish customers the option to gamble using credit cards, according to the Irish Independent.
The IBA has no power to sanction the ban as the Irish government has not formally outlawed the practice.
Hills said in their statement to the Irish Independent: “It’s our ambition that nobody is harmed by gambling and we’re getting in touch to let you know that we will be voluntarily removing credit card deposits as a payment option.”
Last year, Flutter Entertainment banned credit card betting in Ireland in April across its Paddy Power, Betfair and Sky Bet brands.
The percentage of Flutter’s Irish customer base using credit cards to gamble online stood at single digits at the time.
