Yggdrasil looks to operational experience with new CEO promotion
Former COO Björn Krantz advances to top job as supplier targets “growth and globalisation” phase

Yggdrasil has confirmed the internal promotion of global market operations chief Björn Krantz to the CEO role as the supplier targets an increasingly globalised business.
A veteran of the igaming industry, Krantz spent more than 10 years at global igaming supplier NetEnt in a variety of C-level roles, including serving as the Malta-based supplier’s chief operating officer.
Krantz joined Yggdrasil in January 2020 as head of the supplier’s publishing division, serving most recently as its chief of global market operations.
He replaces Yggdrasil founder Fredrik Elmqvist, who will transition to a more hands-off role serving on Yggdrasil’s board of directors.
Speaking about his move, Elmqvist spoke about the safe hands of Krantz, drawing on his “amazing” experience in the sector.
“In the past two years, Björn has been heavily involved in shaping and building Yggdrasil’s global market operations, as well as being a key contributor to the company’s growth strategy and execution planning,” Elmqvist explained.
“The time is now right to execute on this transition and it’s a great day for the board, myself and the entire company to see Björn take over the helm. I am confident that he will do great in propelling the business forward and take it to the next level.
“I will have the pleasure to continue working with Björn through a more active board assignment and will also provide my advisory knowledge in the best possible way to support the continued success of the company and its strategy,” he added.
Addressing his transition to the CEO role, Krantz said he was taking on the role with “great humbleness”, citing his respect for the Yggdrasil business and its culture.
“We have a clear strategy, and together with the rest of the management team I look forward to delivering on our global growth ambitions, and to further strengthen our position as the leading igaming publisher and premium global igaming solutions provider,” Krantz said.
“It will be a pleasure for me to continue working with Fredrik as a close ally and use him as a strategic soundboard as we enter the next phase of the company’s strategy implementation,” he added.
