How social media marketing has changed since Covid-19
Rik Courtney, CEO of Be More Social, discusses how social media has now turned into the storefront for all businesses since the pandemic hit

Let’s face it – the pandemic has shifted every aspect of our lives, especially social media marketing. Its importance grew with each lockdown restriction.
Life has to continue somehow and because social media never went into lockdown, it was the tool that the whole world used to connect with family, friends and businesses.
Rather than businesses ignoring the digital space, they realised that with people being stuck at home, the first device they would turn to is their phones. In this period, online consumption among UK adults increased to four hours and two minutes a day. Basically, it became the key to survival.
Social media marketing has now become a fundamental marketing tool to keep all businesses heads above water – to let their audience know that they still exist and, most importantly, keep their doors open virtually.
Not only did it become a tool to remarket and engage with all customers, but it allowed businesses to pivot to adapt and support the changes that came with the pandemic.
Social media has now turned into the storefront for all businesses. It’s a shame that it took a pandemic to spark this realisation, but it was a straightforward solution to keeping businesses afloat in hindsight.
With the daily demand rising, social media platforms have worked tirelessly to meet marketers’ needs by tailoring updates to further drive leads and sales to their business.
Social media marketing approaches had shifted slightly too. Social listening – a method that allows businesses to tap into the mind of their audiences – had become the top strategy in creating marketing campaigns that entertain, educate and inspire their audience during this time. Thus, making business owners take a more proactive approach rather than a reactive one.
Our customers’ feedback during Covid-19 showed us just how important social media marketing has become. Our business grew 610% due to the demand to make social media work for companies. In businesses taking a risk, applying our methodology and strategies, they have seen the fruits of this labour.
Now with social media marketing being the star of the show forces businesses big and small to focus on how to go about it in the best way possible. That’s why we are on a mission to help 1% of the 5.9 million businesses in the UK get results from social media marketing. We understand that embracing the digital world can be overwhelming, especially in a post-pandemic world, which is why we want to help businesses succeed at it.
Why? Because nobody knows your business better than you.
