Opinion: Are you a top mobile performer?
With just three weeks to go until the eGaming Review operator awards, David Flower, VP EMEA, Compuware Gomez explains how its sponsored performance awards have been judged this year.
Recent statistics from the UK Gambling Commission suggest that online gaming is on the increase in the UK due to the overwhelming popularity of smartphones, laptops and tablets. Speaking at this year’s eGR Live conference, industry data providers H2 Gambling Capital estimated that mobile gaming revenues have increased from 1% four years ago, to 15% today. And this growth path is set to continue.
But before you set off down a road potentially paved with gold, it’s important to be prepared. As mobile and online opportunities increase, so do customer expectations. The speed, availability and consistency afforded by the likes of Google will be the minimum benchmark against which your website (desktop and mobile) will be judged.
The top performing operators will be recognised at this year’s eGaming Review operator awards on 30 November, while the Gomez Best Website Performance and Best Mobile Performance awards will assess customer experience of all the online and mobile sites of the operators shortlisted on the night.
The results are drawn from hard data recorded from 1 January 1 2011 to October 31 2011 using Compuware Gomez’s online performance monitoring network.
For the website award, Gomez’s European network of real-user desktops tested both performance and availability, assessing them against different ISPs from across four major European countries. In the mobile operator category, entries will be tested against both android and iPhone devices across Vodafone and O2 networks.
All online businesses should strive for a consistent web presence that satisfies customers and encourages business growth. If it’s done right, the potential rewards are huge but get it wrong and the consequences could be disastrous.
