DraftKings introduces fast-paced Arcade mode
Format mimics FanDuel’s new Mixups game in an effort to level the ‘sharks and minnows’ playing field

DraftKings has launched a new baseball format called DraftKings Arcade, designed to be easier to play and more exciting to follow than its core MLB offering.
Users are asked to pick six players instead of the standard 10, with no positional requirements, so players could, for example, choose a line-up of five first baseman alongside the pitcher.
Scoring is also tweaked to place an emphasis on major events like homeruns and stolen bases or the pitcher win.
The format, which debuted on Tuesday, was initially available in one tournament, with a prize fund of $100,000 an entry fees of $3, suggesting Arcade mode will be aimed at more casual players.
It is similar to FanDuel’s new Mixups contests, unveiled last month, and also stipulates smaller rosters alongside other rules designed to reduce the advantages enjoyed by professional players.
The unbalanced payer ecology in DFS is seen as one of the main drawbacks to the long-term health of the industry, with more balanced versions of the game like DRAFT attracting more investment recently.
