
MGM appoints Starbucks exec as chief digital officer
Kelly Smith hired to “leverage new digital platforms” to improve customer experience


MGM Resorts this morning announced the appointment of Kelly Smith as the group’s senior vice president and chief digital officer.
Kelly, who joins from Starbucks, has been hired to help the firm “leverage new digital platforms to create innovative customer experiences”.
Smith will be based in Las Vegas and report directly to Lilian Tomovich, chief experience and marketing officer at MGM Resorts.
“We are thrilled to have Kelly join our team,” said Tomovich. “As a global entertainment brand, with customers at the center of our business, our Company’s commitment to digital innovation remains a critical part of our long-term strategy.
“Kelly’s extensive digital expertise and demonstrated skill bridging software, design and emerging technology trends make for a valuable addition to our talented executive team.”

Smith joins MGM Resorts from Starbucks, where he served as VP of global digital products leading the teams responsible for the company’s mobile and web products.
He has also founded several venture-backed companies and brings experience across mobile apps, ecommerce and digital media.
MGM has been ramping up its investment in online gambling in recent months, launching a site and app in New Jersey, to go alongside its Nevada tournament and sports betting apps.
