Sports betting in Montana to go live in March
State preparing to train licensed vendors on using retail betting kiosks provided by Intralot

The Montana Lottery Commission is preparing to launch sports betting in the state in March, with Sports Bet Montana kiosks to go live by March 9.
The Commission this week approved betting on both college and professional sports, including basketball, baseball, ice hockey, football and soccer.
Retail betting will be rolled out gradually to ensure all license holders receive the appropriate training on how to use the terminals.
Online and mobile betting will follow, with the Sports Bet Montana site to offer bettors tutorials on how to sign up to the app and place wagers.
The state began accepting license applications from local lottery and alcohol vendors in December after it was announced Greece’s Intralot would provide the betting technology.
The lottery received 230 applications and had issued up to 127 by this week.
The maximum payout for a single bet will be $100,000, with bettors able to place maximum bets of $250 at kiosks and $1,000 via the app.
Gamblers will only be able to access the Sports Bet Montana betting app from inside licensed betting venues.
Licensed vendors will receive 6% commission on the value of every ticket sold for sports betting, although stakeholders have likened this to an equivalent of a 70%+ tax on GGR and essentially anti-competitive.
