AGA calls for “constant reinvention” of gaming regulation

The American Gaming Association (AGA) has called on regulators to keep up a “constant review” of regulatory standards and processes to keep up with the changing gambling industry.

Releasing its latest White Paper entitled Advancing Regulatory Modernisation: Building on a Record of Success, the AGA cited the role of technology in disrupting the gaming world, adding that “regulatory reinvention will have to keep pace with those disruptions while still insuring the integrity of the industry.”

Citing the example of five US states which have reformed their gaming practices in specific areas in recent years, the AGA said that replicating the practices used will be essential to ensure the gaming industry’s “continuing vitality.”

Several US regulators are dealing with the consequences of the revised Department of Justice opinion on the Wire Act, most notably New Jersey and Pennsylvania where both regulators are in the midst of switching their operations into ones compliant with the revised regulations.

“By watching other jurisdictions to identify promising reforms, many are finding new ways to approach their vital mission,” the AGA added.

AGA vice-president in charge of public affairs, Sara Slane, said the presence of smart regulatory reforms improved the industry’s ability to accommodate changes in the marketplace, and created greater efficiencies for regulators and businesses.”

The White Paper will be distributed to all US regulators.
