FanDuel signs first sports betting partner
Paddy Power Betfair-owned firm to offer sports betting at West Virginia casino
FanDuel has announced a deal to provide sports betting at one of America’s oldest golfing resorts and casinos, The Greenbrier, in West Virginia.
It is the operator’s first sports betting deal since being acquired by Paddy Power Betfair (PPB) last month.
In a statement issued to Pro Football Talk, FanDuel CEO Matt King said, “We are honored to be chosen to provide sports wagering services at The Greenbrier, an iconic resort in the U.S.”
“As we work towards building out a top sports betting product for the upcoming NFL season, we look forward to bringing West Virginia residents, sports fans, and visitors to The Greenbrier the best interactive sports experience on the market.”
Under state laws passed by the senate in March, the West Virginia’s five casinos can offer sports betting on payment of a $100,000 licensing fee and will pay 10% in revenue back to the state in taxes.
Officials from the West Virginia lottery recently approved emergency regulations, allowing online and mobile sports betting and are reportedly aiming for a launch date of 1st September.
PPB has said FanDuel will be its main betting and casino brand in the US, with the product understood to be powered by IGT technology, with PPB trading.
The news comes just days after rival DFS firm DraftKings agreed partnership deals with New Jersey casino Resorts Atlantic City and sports betting technology supplier Kambi Group.
The company is reportedly aiming to launch its sports betting operations later this summer in advance of the start of the new NFL season.
