MGM sportsbook veteran to take on the new role of chief risk officer for the betting supplier after 25 years in the industry

Sports betting supplier Bet.Works has hired MGM’s former VP of race and sports Jay Rood as its chief risk officer.
Rood has over 25 years’ experience in the industry, both as an independent consultant and at MGM where he departed in May this year.
He cut his industry teeth at Caesars in 1992 before joining MGM in 1993 as a ticket writer. Rood oversaw all of the casino’s sportsbooks, including those in Nevada, Mississippi and New Jersey.

Bet.Works founder David Wang said Rood’s experience would help progress the company to the next level.
“There is no one more qualified to lead our organization as we deploy in more states in the coming months,” Wang said.
“Jay and our in-house Las Vegas-based trading and risk team will oversee all of the brands on the Bet.Works platform with a significant emphasis into advanced in-play wagering via our technology platform.”
Rood said: “I am excited to be joining a group of extremely experienced and talented individuals at Bet.Works focusing on servicing the emerging sports betting industry with unique and powerful technology and a team that has extensive knowledge in the US betting market.
Bet.Works is preparing to launch its first betting product with Canadian sports media firm TheScore, with New Jersey’s Monmouth Park as their licensing partner.
The supplier hired former Scientific Games executive Quinton Singleton as COO back in January, as well as former Sportradar exec Dr Lailas Maintas.
TheScore sportsbook is expected in “mid-2019”.
