MGM and Stations unveil new mobile apps

Land-based operators continue mobile expansion with half of all sports bets expected to come from apps by 2020
MGM Resorts and Station Casinos introduced new gambling apps in Nevada this week as the industry continues its effort to get visitors gambling when not on the casino floor.
MGMâs app, Easyplay Mobile Tournaments, allows guests to compete for real cash prizes in tournament versions of classic casino games including slots, bingo and video poker as well as social games.
The platform, developed by mobile gaming tech company oneLIVE inc, is designed only to work on-site for guests at MGMâs nine Vegas resorts.
“The tournaments bring an element of competition that our guests will enjoy whether they are sitting at a bar enjoying a drink or simply hanging out by the pool,” said Tom Mikulich, senior vice president of business development for MGM Resorts International.
Elsewhere, Station Casinos unveiled a new version of its sports betting app developed by Miomni Gaming, the tech firm behind apps from the Wynn, Boyd Gaming and Aliante.
Station said the upgraded product, called the STN Sports mobile app, is quicker and more reliable than its predecessor.
“We are committed to the continued evolution of our sports business, including both our over the counter betting experience and our mobile app technology” said Art Manteris, vice president of race and sports book operations for Station Casinos. “This new partnership allows us to offer our guests more betting options with greater ease.”
Nevada sports betting apps accounted for 29% of Nevadaâs betting handle in 2015, and are expected to generate half of all betting volume by 2020, according to Eilers & Krejcik Gaming.
