OLG seeks market advice on platform modernization
Regulated operator planning to shift operations provision to private firms in near future

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has launched a Request for Information (RFI), to ask the market for advice on how best to modernize its player platform.
OLG said it is exploring how upgrades to its current technology infrastructure can improve the ways it connects with customers online and at retail
The Canadian operator is in the midst of a wider process of modernization to ensure its technology and products are “responsive to changing customer needs”.
OLG said the RFI would help it develop a player platform that would “enhance player registration, responsible gambling controls and player accounts”.
The operator only launched its online gaming platform at the start of 2015, and faces stiff grey market competition from the likes of PokerStars, William Hill and 888.
OLG egaming revenue sat at just C$8m in fiscal 2014–15, although it projects this to grow to C$70m by fiscal 2019–20.
Part of this growth will be driven by the transfer of provision to private providers, with OLG saying its recent 2017 planning document: “After modernization, OLG will become a leaner, more focused organization, accountable for the conduct and management of lottery and gaming while the day-to-day delivery of lottery and gaming will shift to private sector service providers”.
