Online gaming in New Jersey soars to monthly record high of $86m in May
Sports betting handle more than doubles month on month to almost $118m despite dearth of major sporting action

New Jersey online gaming revenue leapt 124.1% year on year in May to $85.9m, according to the latest figures released by the state’s Division of Gaming Enforcement.
Casino accounted for $81.4m of the total revenue, up from $74.8m in April, while poker generated revenue of $4.5m, down from $5.1m the previous month.
Golden Nugget, which includes online brands Golden Nugget, Betfair and FanDuel, increased its monthly online revenue (casino only) to $29m, compared with $27.6m in April, translating into a market share of 34%.
Meanwhile, Resorts Digital, including DraftKings, generated revenue in May of $17.8m, closely followed by Borgata with $16.7m.
The remainder were headed by Caesars with $9.3m and Tropicana with $6.7m. Hard Rock ($5.4m) and Ocean Resort ($1m) completed the list.
The lack of major sports has helped fuel igaming’s growth in the Garden State over recent months as revenue increased from $64.8m in March to $79.6m in April.
Total igaming revenue this year to date increased 88.3% to $337.8m when compared with the first five months of 2019.
On the sports betting front, handle more than doubled month over month to $117.8m, although this is still well down on the $494m generated in February before coronavirus forced the suspension of most sport and the closure of brick-and-mortar sportsbooks.
Combined revenue was $9.9m, with the Meadowlands license (FanDuel Sportsbook and PointsBet) accounting for over 40% of that total at $4.2m. The nearest challenger was Resorts (DraftKings, Fox Bet and Resorts) with $3.8m in revenue.
