Partypoker and Philadelphia 76ers part ways
Marketing partnership between the NBA franchise and online poker brand terminated
Partypoker and the Philadelphia 76ers have terminated their âground-breakingâ partnership signed in January 2014 due to a lack of market opportunity. [private]
The partnership saw partypoker branding appear at the 76ers home stadium, and the poker operator establish stations throughout the arena to allow fans to sign up and sample its products as well as receiving special offers.
“In light of the fact that  New Jersey is a much smaller market than was expected, added to which  Pennsylvania is yet to regulate as had been hoped for, we have taken steps to adjust our marketing spend,” a bwin.party spokesman told eGR North America.
At the time the deal was signed, bwin.party CEO Norbert Teufelberger said there was an âaffinityâ between playing online poker tournaments and sports.
But the rise of daily fantasy sports over the past few months has seen many teams strike partnerships, with the 76ers joining forces with DraftKings back in December last year.
Bwin.party also has sponsorship agreement with the New Jersey Devilâs NHL team, which remains in place.
