Parx becomes second PA casino to apply for sports betting license
Operator asks PGCB to review its application "expeditiously" to make the most of football season

Parx Casino owner, Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment (GGE), has become the second casino operator to submit its application to offer sports betting in the state.
The application asks for permission to launch betting at Parx Casino and the South Philadelphia Turf Club – a racing track situated on the stadium complex that hosts Philadelphia’s professional sports teams.
Parx has an existing deal with GAN for online gaming, which could extend to sports betting, where GAN has integrated SBTech’s software.
However the license application referred to a Kambi subsidiary, and the Swedish provider confirmed today it is in discussion with GGE.
The application requested permission for retail, mobile and online sports betting, with a license costing $10m, and coming with a 36% tax on revenue.
GGE is the second casino operator to apply for PA sports betting following Penn National’s application last week.
GGE asked the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to review its request “expeditiously” to enable it to launch during football season, but it’s unlikely the PGCB will be granting any sports betting licenses before October.
The separate application for the Turf Club would be for a “non-primary” location, with the fee covered under GGE’s single $10m license fee.
The Turf Club application also reportedly requires approval from the state’s Horse Racing Commission.
