PokerStars continues to ramp-up its lobbying efforts in California with the launch of a state-wide radio campaign calling on citizens to support the passage of online poker legislation. [private]
The campaign has been released through the Stars-backed Californians for Responsible iPoker coalition, which includes the San Manuel and Morongo tribes, plus three of the stateâs largest card rooms.
The 60 second ads are being supported by an online campaign and the Californians4ipoker.com site which launched last week calling on citizens to join the coalitionâs efforts to see a bill pass into law.
âWe intend to push online poker over the finish line,â San Manuel chairwoman Lynn Valbuena, said.
âAuthorizing online poker by creating a strictly regulated marketplace in California is the right thing to do for consumers, and itâs the right thing to do for the state,â she added.
Later this summer, PokerStars also plans to launch the âLet California Play!â Pro Tour, which will see a number of Starsâ celebrity ambassadors take part in tournaments at card rooms across the state.
âAs the global home of innovation, technology and consumer rights, itâs time California updated its old laws and regulated online poker to protect consumers, and bring new revenue to California,â Eric Hollreiser, PokerStars spokesman, said.
The state recently made unprecedented progress after a bill backed by Assemblyman Adam Gray passed out of Committee and onto the Assembly floor for the first time.
Two further hearings are scheduled to take place in the coming months to discuss bill tabled by Assemblyman Mike Gatto and Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer.
While the state has undoubtedly moved the needle in the right direction of late, hurdles regarding âbad actorsâ and the role of the racetracks still need to be cleared.
